Modern architecture is often said to be detested due to a traditionalist popular taste. This paper presents various approaches to the normative evaluation of architecture, with reference to, amongst others, Scruton, Harries, Parsons/Carlson and Schwarte. It links these to the findings of a qualitative mini-survey on derogatory comments about architecture and concludes by attempting to formulate a hypothesis, supported by at least some data, on how »the public« thinks about architecture. mehr
